How to cope with anxiety.
Anxiety has increasingly become one of the most common mental illnesses among the population of the world.
People who suffer from anxiety sense a feeling of overwhelming fear by the problems of reality, self-doubt, or by the changes that occur in life. It is often marked by sweating and tension.
Anxiety leads to serious health problems. Thus, we should take care of our mental health for our wellness and healthy life.
Some of the ways to cope with anxiety are:
Visit a therapist: It is better to visit a therapist or a counselor first and talk about your situation. They will guide you better on how to deal with your anxiety. They will also provide you with the knowledge of your body’s reaction to different situations. These things will help you understand the signs of your body better and cope with your anxiety effectively.
Take a good night’s sleep: Sleep is powerful and the most beneficial activity we can carry out for our wellness. An adult requires about 7-9 hours of sleep daily.
Sleeping might be difficult when you have anxiety. Follow good habits for a good night’s rest. Avoid the use of caffeine which will keep you awake. Exercise daily. Also, avoid the use of your phone before sleep. Instead, read a book. Reading will also create a distraction for your mind to think about negative thoughts.
Exercise: Exercise at least 30 mins in a day. Do yoga and meditation. This will be beneficial for both your physical and mental health.
Master breathing to calm your body and mind. Breathe in slowly through the nose and breathe out slowly from the mouth. Practice breathing to cope better when anxiety attacks. Do not hold your breath when you are anxious or carry out other self-harm activities.
Create a specific time to think about your fears: Take out some time to think about your worries and what makes you feel anxious. This will also help you to sleep better. If you can, try to come up with solutions on how to tackle your problems.
During this time, master your thoughts. Bring positivity to whatever you are thinking of. Think that you can overcome all the fears and worries. Try to accept all the changes that are happening in life.
Try new a hobby. Hobbies can create distractions and can help you cope with anxiety. Try reading a book and relax your thoughts. Divert your thoughts away from negativity and dwell on the positive ones; or thoughts that ignite creativity and productivity.
Talk with your friends or families. Another way to cope with anxiety is by having a good relationship with friends and families that support and motivate us. Spending time with them can reduce stress and anxiety.
Help the community and do volunteer works. This will help you become sociable and the community will return their support for your good deeds.
Listen to music and enjoy the outdoors: Listening to music also helps to cope with anxiety. If you are staying only at home, tell yourself to go out and enjoy the outdoors and sun.
Nature has properties that can heal and help us to relax our minds. A stroll with nature can help you to ease your mind as well as it will be a good exercise. (Walking daily for 30-60mins is proven to have numerous benefits.)
